Roland Chavez

Support Roland Chavez for President of the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association, Local 341.

Roland Chavez was born and raised in Houston, Texas in the 1st Ward area of Houston. He graduated from Reagan High School in 1975. He attended San Jacinto College from 1975 to 1977, and then attended the University of Houston-Downtown from 1977 to 1978. Upon entering the Fire Department in January 1979, he was assigned to Station #2 in the Fourth Ward until it's closing in 1986. Its crew was then transferred to new Station #4 on W. Little York. Roland transferred to Station 62 in 1993, and was assigned to Rescue 62. There, in 1994, he was promoted to Engineer Operator and was assigned to Medic 62 until his transfer in 1997 to Station 28, where his assigned apparatus, Engine 28, was also chosen by a newly promoted Captain, the late Jay Jahnke. Roland currently is now assigned to Ladder 28 on the B shift.

His involvement with Local 341 began in the early 80's, volunteering his time working and placing out political signs for candidates Local 341 endorsed. Roland is a long time volunteer with the MDA, having served as chairman from 1996 to 1997, and again from 1999 to 2001. Roland was first elected to Local 341 in 1995 as a Sergeant-at-Arms, and now has served as an elected Director since 1999. He helped organize both the "Fund Fire First" rally and the Collective Bargaining rally on the steps of City Hall. Currently, he serves on the City Hall Committee, By-Laws Committee, Screening Committee, Fire Pac Committee, MDA Committee, and the Cadet Review Committee. Previously, he was selected as an original member of The Dennis Holder Scholarship Committee, and is currently on the Board of Directors for The Asian Houston Network.
